Weekly Prayer Focus: Trammell Creek

Please be in prayer for Trammell Creek this weekend & next week. They are sending a team of 14 volunteers to work alongside us in ministering to the Songhai! This is by far the largest team that Mark & I have ever hosted. We are so excited as the leaders of the team are old college friends from Campbellsville University & they are bringing 12 of their high school & college aged students. If anyone knows Mark & I well, they know that we have a huge heart for students!

The team will arrive in the wee hours of the morning & then we will hit the ground running with orientation. The next 7 days will be devoted to painting a school & clinic in Tagabati as well as doing evangelism in the village using the C2C story.

We are excited about making entry into Tagabati with this team & doing a "goodwill" project, if you will. Many, many, many Songhai have yet to hear the Gospel in Tagabati & have never heard the name of Jesus before. Please pray that not only the students would be bold in their witness but that God would draw the Songhai of Tagabati to Himself & they would respond to the Truth of His Word. Pray that His sheep would hear His voice!

Pray for the students' health & safety as they will be working & walking long hours in the sun with few places to rest in the shade. Pray for them as they travel long hours to get here & that there would be no "surprises" along the way. Pray for the people of Tagabati to be open & receptive to the students & the Message. Pray that they would not see their white skin & think only of what kinds of gifts they can receive but they would truly be interested in hearing of the salvation they can only find in Jesus!

Weekly Prayer Focus: the Foxes

Please be in prayer for the Fox family this week. They are wrapping up their final week of training in Virginia & will then spend the next 3 weeks saying goodbye to friends & family in the States. This is always a very difficult part of being a missionary ... always having to say goodbye. While one is excited about the call God has placed on their life & excited about finally getting to the place that you've prayed about for years, it's also hard to say goodbye to your family, not knowing when you'll see them again, & also to your home & all you've ever known.

The most important part of saying goodbyes for missionaries is to make sure they are meaningful. You never know what God's plans are & when or if you'll see someone again. So please pray for the Foxes over the next few weeks - that they would be able to have meaningful, quality time with their friends & families & that, while sadness will be there amongst the goodbyes, there would also be a sweet "sending off" from their loved ones as they embark on this new journey in their lives.

Pray for their 3 young children who have been uprooted & moved from here to there & all around over the last few months. Just as they were getting used to their new "home" in Richmond, they'll be plucked from that & starting on another 3 week journey of saying goodbye to their grandparents, aunts, uncles, & cousins. After all is said & done, they'll hop on 4 planes & land in a country that they've never seen, to see a people that looks nothing like them & says nothing they can understand, in an environment that their bodies are not used to feeling, hearing, seeing or smelling.

It's a lot to process & deal with as an adult. It's even more so for a child. Please pray for their children now that during these 3 weeks that God would begin to prepare them for this huge transition. Pray for their time with their families & friends as well. Pray that God would do a work that only He can do by allowing their minds & bodies to adjust quickly to all that is happening around them.

Pray also that Jody & Sarah would be able to find rest amidst all the busyness of saying goodbyes & packing. Pray that their spirits would be full & that those around them will build them up in encouragement & love as they prepare to leave.

More Prayer, More People

As mentioned in our last newsletter, we are wanting to "kick it up a notch" with our prayer team for the Songhai. Currently, we have around 600 people praying every month for the Songhai people & our team. We are wanting to raise that number to 1,000 or MORE! We have seen incredible things happen as a result of your prayers! Can you imagine if there were one thousand people praying for the salvation of the Songhai?! Can you help us?

And here's an added bonus. The one current prayer partner who enlists the most new prayer partners gets a prize!! "What?" you may ask ... well, how about one very fancy unique-to-Niger souvenir? Perhaps a handmade, hand crafted soapstone nativity scene? This lovely gift can be yours for the taking!

**photo taken from www.tobuildthishouse.blogspot.com**
This was a nativity set from Niger that we gave to some of our dear friends a few years ago.

Here's how it works ...

1. Enlist your family, friends, co-workers, Sunday School class, small group, Bible study, etc, etc to pray for the Songhai.
2. Ask them to make a commitment to pray once a month (or more) for the needs of the Songhai people & team.
3. For those that commit, compile a list of their email addresses.
4. Send us your list of email addresses with corresponding names & numbers. For instance, if you recruit an entire family or a couple but they only use one email address, send it to us like this:

ex. The Smith Family     thesmiths@email.com      5 people praying

That's it! That simple! You ask people to pray for the Songhai & send us their names & emails! We'll immediately add them to our newsletter list & they can begin to pray for the Songhai!

We'll close this "contest" on July 31 & announce the "winner" & final tally of our new prayer partners on August 15.

Can you help us do this?! Even if you are not "in it to win it," could you ask just one person to join the Songhai prayer team with you? Please don't discourage yourself from doing this by thinking that you won't have "enough" people to ask. Really, one extra person praying for the Songhai people is a blessing to us!
